When Bill 101 passed in 2025 the Province was granted the power to take away decision making power from the democratically elected Trustees, and set a range of maximum 5 to 12 Trustees for each School Board in Ontario. 

The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) will drop from 22 Trustees to 12 Trustees despite it having the largest enrolment of students in Canada.  

Ward 10 is made up of two existing wards-  Beaches–East York and Scarborough Southwest.  The fact they are not calling it 19 and 20 further undermines the democratic election of Trustees.

Ward 10 is now comprised of 56 school communities and over 20,000 students whose needs will be served by one Trustee whose compensation will be reduced to a maximum of $10,000.  

Does this sound like an appropriate way to govern one of our most critical public services?
